Program Leader : Nathan Pugh - nxp004@uark.edu
SIFE students conduct a day camp for elementary students from around the Northwest Arkansas area. While the primary goal of the program is to teach students about global chocolate production, the program also contains shorter lessons in budgeting, advertising, currency, and ethics. Using their classroom lessons, students create their own imaginary chocolate company including a prototype. The elementary students work with college mentors to research using the Internet and to create a PowerPoint presentation detailing their business plans. Last year, UA SIFE held three different events in three locations. This program has been copyrighted and is available for other SIFE Teams as well as educators to use in their classrooms. Real Experience for a Real World!
Program Contact: David Noudaranouvong (dnoudara@uark.edu)
This year, the Entrepreneurship Committee (EC) is primarily focusing on consultation projects. We are working with EcoPotential, Kimberly-Clark, and Momma Dean’s Soul Food Kitchen, while having our sights on yet another project before year’s end. General outlines for the products are to improve sales, increase target markets, raise product/service awareness, and to aid in a measurable growth of companies. We hope to learn more than the average college student could through our hands-on experiences with our partner companies. We want to provide effective feedback and business plans while building our relationships with our clients. Each case has its own twists and atmospheres, providing the EC with varying real-world challenges; adapting to unknown territory, overcoming difficult odds, and persevering through tough situations are a few of the many challenges we are presented with. All of our consulting products are scheduled as long-term projects.
