SIFE - Changing the World University of Arkansas Walton College of Business
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Got a Question?Why should I join SIFE?

As a member of a SIFE team, you’ll face challenges and learn from experiences that you simply can’t find in a classroom. Actually, you will make the transition from being a student to becoming a teacher yourself. And through the process of organizing a team, developing and implementing free enterprise educational projects, finding funding for your efforts, using the mass media and presenting your teams accomplishments at a SIFE Regional Competition, you’ll develop teamwork, leadership, and communication skills far beyond those of most college students. You’ll be preparing for the real world by facing real world challenges.

Who can apply?

Any currently registered student at the University of Arkansas is eligible to be a SIFE member, including graduate, non-business and part-time students.

What are the membership requirements?

As a member of SIFE you are expected to volunteer at least 10 hours each semester; independent work and project work all count towards your hours. You are required to attend all meetings, unless given advance notice of an upcoming absence.

When and where do you meet?

We meet on every second Wednesday during the regular semester from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Room 257 of the Walton College of Business (WCOB). Special meetings are also held with advanced notice.

What is the Leadership Team (LT)?

The Leadership Team is comprised of all SIFE's officers, program leaders and our Sam M. Walton fellow (SIFE advisor). In addition to the regular meeting, they meet separately to go over SIFE business. This meeting is open to all SIFE students by invitation or request.

What is the Business Advisory Board (BAB)?

The Business Advisory Board is a group of professional businesspeople representing local, national and international companies that provide our SIFE team with guidance, encouragement and support.

How do I log my SIFE hours?

Use the Volunteer Hours Form for 2007(which can be download here) and submit it to the Director of Member Affairs.

What if I have an idea for a project?

If you have a project idea that you feel strongly about, get in touch with anyone on the Leadership Team and seek their approval, request a block of time at the LT meeting, and formally present your idea.

What is "SIFE Love"?

The term "SIFE Love" was originally coined by our own Dacia Boehmler (one of many "Dac-isms") to symbolize the unity and affinity within our SIFE team. It is used in greeting, in parting and in most unofficial SIFE activities.
